2018-2023
As a digital product designer and part of an agile development team, I designed several internal software products for automotive engineers and designers to enhance the vehicle development process. Projects ranged from VR/XR/3D applications to 2D web applications for data storage and filtering.
My work covered the design process from beginning to end: initial research and colloaborative workshops to designing intuitive interfaces and testing both with interactive design prototypes and the final applications.
Additionally I worked on integrating design methods and processes into the department's software development process. As I was the only designer, it was important to establish a set of workshops that each team could go through before development, even without a designer present, and educating the team on design practices. By the time I left, we had worked out a whole discovery and framing process and each agile team had at least 1 designer present.
This is a selection of my work. Please keep in mind that due to protected data and information you will find only limited previews and insights. Images contain mock or publicly available data.
In vehicle development physical prototypes cost a lot of money and time to produce. Once they arrive for review and testing, their data is already outdated.
This internally developed and used application was created for testing the feasibility of using then current technology to augment physical prototypes with virtual data, in order to be able to view the most recent data available. It consists of two parts - one for the engineers preparing the data and one for those who view and present it.

During the vehicle development process engineers are dependant on physical models and need to wait for prototype parts to be ready to try out and use those to plan assembly processes for the production.
Mixed reality - existing physical parts combined with adjustable virtual data - makes it possible for the assembly of parts to be tried out earlier in the process than before.
The application includes two parts: one for the preparation and calibration of the data and the scene and a view mode.

Development engineers use databases for processes and results. The old database system they were using didn't cover all their needs, which meant a lot of information ended up in scattered files on people's computers. To make the process more efficient, we built an up-to-date and user friendly cloud-based web application that stores data for all steps of the process and keeps track of progress.
We designed it to be easy to use for both the highly specialized engineers doing the detailed work and the managers who need to oversee projects. The goal was to make everyone's job easier by putting all the information in one place and making it simple to find and update

For testing purposes, engineers spend a lot of time on night drives testing dynamic light functions, which couldn't be tested in a static light tunnel environment. This puts a lot of stress on the testers and their work environment. This project was developed to test the possibility of combining simulated testing data with real-life hardware through video augmentation - thus improving the testing of light functions on-location and reducing the number of night drives needed.
